Moto X release date

Update: The Moto X will be available for preorder via the Motorola MotoMaker website starting tomorrow for an off-contract price of 499 USD (16 GB model). The Moto X will also come in a "Pure Edition" with an unlockable bootloader. It's said to be the closest thing to a vanilla Android experience that can be found and will guarantee quick updates to new Android versions.
Accompanying the device launch is the Moto Hint, an in-ear Bluetooth device which gives you complete voice-control over the Moto X, at a price of 149.99 USD, and the Motorola Turbo Charger, which will add around 8 hours of charge to the device in just 15 minutes. The Turbo Charger price is set at 34.99 USD.
The Moto X will become available with most carriers in Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia later this month.

Moto X price

Coming with a black soft touch plastic backing, 16 GB base models will cost 499 USD, but carriers will have it for as low as 99 USD on contract (16 GB or 32 GB). Using the MotoMaker options to add color accents and a bamboo back or leather sets you back 529 USD for the 16 GB version. The Moto X with 32 GB goes for 579 USD, with the choice of any back panel.
Motorola's fantastic MotoMaker store will finally be arriving to the UK by the end of September, offering fully customizable designs for the Moto X at a price of £419.99.

How to stop Android apps accessing your location???

Whenever you install an app you'll see a little of any permissions it requires – but who bothers reading such things? The apps you install can request to access your list of contacts, send messages on your behalf, and much more. But if you're concerned about your privacy, you will want to keep an eye on which apps are able to determine where you are.
com teaser2

Your Moto X or Samsung Galaxy S4 could easily share your location, and it's possible that you would rather keep this information to yourself. There are, of course, some apps that it makes sense to grant access to location information – navigation tools, for instance – but there are plenty of the others that you might like to wrestle control from.
There are two ways you can go about this: either using Android's built-in settings, or by using a dedicated permission control app. The method that is built into Android is slightly simplistic, but it gets the job done.

The Android method

Head to Settings and then move to the More section. In the Permissions section, tap the on/off toggle switch next to the Location label – in the off position, your handset will stop collecting location data. You can also change the method of location reporting that is used. Tap the Location label and then tap Mode. You can then choose between three different modes according to your preferences.

If you scroll down through the Location section, you can see a list of all of the apps that have requested information about your location. There is no built in way to stop these apps from access this data, but it is still handy to know; you may want to investigate the settings for individual apps to see if there is a way to disable location tracking.
android location 2
You can easily see which your installed apps are tracking your location. © ANDROIDPIT
As well as the apps you have installed, numerous Google service – such as Google Now – can make use of your location. This is something else you can control. Beneath the list of apps, tap Google Location Reporting and you'll see a list of all of the accounts you have set up on your handset.
android location 3
In addition to apps, your location can also be tracked by various Google services. © ANDROIDPIT
For each account you can use the Location Reporting setting to enable or disable access to your location data, while the Location History section gives you the chance to wipe out data that has already been recorded about you.

The AppOps method

While it is possible to disable location tracking in Android, it is something of an "all or nothing" approach. AppOps is a free app that can be used to control location permission of individual apps. There are several apps with similar names in Google Play, so be sure to install the right one. Fire up the app and you'll see a list of app that make use of location information.

Tap the entry for any app in the list and you'll see a list of all of the permissions it uses.
android location 5
A setting toggle is all it takes to stop a particular app recording your location. © ANDROIDPIT
You can then toggle the Location setting to prevent that app from using location information. Repeat the process for as many apps as you would like to lockdown.
Do location-tracking capabilities concern you, or are you happy to leave settings as they are?

How to protect your Android device with a Firewall????

For those who didn’t know, a firewall is nothing more than a safety barrier between a device (computer, smartphone or tablet) and the internet. It’s a barrier that filters all communication that tries to cross it, whether in or out, allowing only those which are authorized to do so. Obviously in Android, the firewalls available here might not provide the same extensive functionality as those for PC, however these can help filter which apps can interact online and which are blocked.

Why use a firewall?

There are many possibilities: stopping an app from automatically updating, blocking offline in-app ads, avoiding online checking of the apps (for example license control or something else more or less legal), and saving megabytes by stopping unwanted internet connections from running in the background. These are just a few of the uses.

How to Install a firewall

By now you may have guessed, special functions such as these quite often require root access. Though this is one of these cases, there is also a version for non-rooted devices, but its usage presents some complications. We’ll explain further in the article how to overcome them.

Installing a firewall with root access

Icon
DroidWall - Android Firewall INSTALL
This app works on any device with root access. The controls are simple: there is only one page with a list of all installed applications on the device. Next to the name and the icon two checkboxes are located which serve the purpose to block and unblock whether an app can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi or mobile connection (or both). There are also two modes, which are sorted into a white list and a black list. The first one lets you block all applications except the ones you’ve selected, while the other list allows you choose the apps you want to block. Simply tap on the ‘’mode’’ textfield to change the way you use the app. To start or stop the firewall service, open the menu and select "firewall is/enabled"

Installing a firewall without root access

Icon
NoRoot Firewall INSTALL
By using a VPN, you can simulate a firewall even without having root permissions. The service, however, may not work on every device, but the real problem lies elsewhere: all connections must first go through the application, which are then checked, approved, then regenerated from the app. This means that it practically doubles the consumption of megabytes. Apart from this "problem", the app works well, allows for various permissions for individual apps as well as many other functions. Ticking the checkbox ("V") will allow access, while a second touch ("X") will deny it. For each app, you can also create custom filters (managing individual IP / hostname and port) by just tapping on the name.
There are many other apps that perform this task, but, in my opinion, the ones I’ve shared are the best. Now you can browse according to your rules, blocking everything that you think you can live without!

How to control the brightness of your display!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!................

Changing the brightness on your Android can seem like a no brainer: go into your settings and adjust to level to your preference. However, this might not be enough to save battery power on your device, reduce the brightness to a proper level to not harm your eyes, or provide an optimal brightness based on your lighting conditions. To better manage the brightness on your Android device, you’ll have to go above and beyond your settings.

Change the brightness according to ambient light

To change the brightness according to the ambient light around you, you can use the Lux Lite to manage it for you.
Icon
Lux Lite INSTALL
With this application, you can go ahead and change the brightness manually, but it still offers you more customization options than your standard Android settings. Lux Lite allows you to go beyond the preset options and offers you a bunch of profiles to help your device adapt to changing light conditions.

The app does provide in-app purchase to unlock some advanced features, but the basic options are still very useful and can manage the brightness extremely well.

Manage your display colors and contrast

With the Twilight app, you can change the color shades and contrast based on the time of the day.
Icon
Twilight INSTALL
If you want enable automatic adjustments, go to Filter Times and adjust the contrast based on the time of the day.

The free version of Twilight doesn’t allow you to manually change the times of sunrise and sunset or use custom transition times to switch from a warmer display to a normal brightness. For this, you’ll need to upgrade to the Pro version.

Adjust brightness at night

When you are looking at your display at night, it can often be way too bright for the good of your eyes. In order to optimize the brightness so that you can both see whatever is on your display and not burn out your retinas, you can grab the application called Night Mode.
Icon
Night Mode INSTALL

Night Mode allows you to control the brightness at night. / © ANDROIDPIT
With Night Mode, your device will automatically reduce the brightness based on the time. All you have to do is set a start time and an end time and then the app will do the rest for you. As well, you can disable a bunch of different settings on your device based on the time including your notification light, haptic feedback, notification sounds, and more.

CyanogenMod

Whether you’re looking for a custom ROM or already running CyanogenMod, you’ll be please to know that it offers more advanced options for controlling the brightness on your device. You can have the brightness automatically adjusted based on your ambient lighting. Simply head to Settings > Display > Brightness in order to enable it.

Root Permissions

If you’ve already got root permissions on your Android device, then you’re one step closer to having complete control of your device.
RootDim is an app that allows you to adjust the brightness on devices with LCD screens much more thoroughly than what Android itself will allow.
Icon
RootDim [root] INSTALL
Of course, you can also “tweak” your device and manually change the minimum levels of brightness. You’ll need to have a file manager, such as ES File Manager or Root Explorer, and head over to the system and modify the ro.lcd_min_brightness.

Whether this is a permanent price drop from the two retailers I found the price on or just a temporary thing is anyone's guess. Regardless, if you're in the market for a high-end smartphone that's not the size of a school book then now is the time to buy this phone. The Z3 Compact is a great little device with all the power and internals as its larger brother the Xperia Z3.

In our hands-on Xperia Z3 Compact review we were impressed by how great it feels and how good the performance is. Usually when holding a phone of this size its either really slow or its an iPhone, so having a smaller screened Android will full on internal specs is a pleasure. We only wish more OEMs would follow suit.

iPhone 6 launch: why do Android users care more about Apple events than Android ones????

The numbers don’t lie: our stats show that you’re much more interested in the iPhone 6 than in any single Android device, story or event. Is Apple the firm that you love to hate?

iphone6 side crop
The iPhone 6: do Android users love to hate it? / © Apple
The iPhone 6 launch was bittersweet for me, because I like phones and I really hate U2. I never used to - I used to be a huge, huge U2 fan - but since the turn of the century I’ve found them insanely annoying. The thing is, though, that instead of just ignoring them I keep finding myself tuning in to their launches or reading their interviews for no other reason than to get really annoyed at how annoying they are. I wonder, are you the same with Apple?
We’ve been looking at our server stats, and as Shakira nearly said, the hits don’t lie. The iPhone 6 launch was more popular than the entire IFA show, let alone any single Android product launch. To put it into context, the only way the next Nexus launch can generate the kind of traffic the iPhone 6 launch did would be if Google glued a bunch of Nexuses to a naked Miley Cyrus, strapped her to a missile and fired it at Russia.
I’ve just checked and this is definitely AndroidPIT, not ApplePIT, so there can only be two explanations. Either you’re all closet Apple fans, or you’re hatewatching.

Anger is an energy

keynote apple iphone6 8
Own up. How many of you watched the Apple keynote? / © Apple
Hatewatching is a TV term, but it describes what I do with U2 and what I think many of you do with Apple events: you watch it not because you care, but because you want to get really angry and share that anger with like-minded souls. It’s a sport of sorts, a challenge to see who can build up the biggest head of steam and unleash the most acidic response.
I get it, I really do. I was glued to the U2 bit of the Apple event, unable to tear myself away from a screen that I really wanted to punch. I turned my headphones up louder so I could hear how bad the song was at higher volumes, maximised the video window so there was nothing to mitigate the sheer irritation of Bono, squirmed in my seat as Tim Cook and Bono exchanged obviously scripted quips. I hated every second of it.
It was brilliant.
Am I right? Is Apple the firm you love to hate, or is something else happening?

How to deactivate location feature in photos on Android!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're all concerned about privacy these days, and it's sobering to remember that something as simple as taking a photo can reveal a lot about you. The photos you take may be geotagged, meaning that they have GPS co-ordinate embedded into them that give away the location you pressed the shutter.  If this concerns you, it is possible to turn off location tagging.

Snap a photo on your Moto X or Nexus 5, and you probably don’t think about much more than ensuring that the shot is perfectly framed. But when you upload an image to a website, the metadata encoded into it could easily reveal your location. If this is something you'd prefer to keep private, here's how to disable the feature.

Move to the right hand tab by clicking the cog icon, and you should see the Location tag label. If it is set to On and you would like to disable it, tap the setting and then select Off.
If you ever change your mind about location tagging, you can easily re-enable it.

Location tagging can be useful, and you can easily re-enable it if needed. © ANDROIDPIT
Simply repeat the same steps, but select On rather than Off, and you'll see a warning that your location can be determined from image while the feature is enabled. Tap OK to acknowledge this.
If you lose track of whether location tagging is enabled or disabled, just look to the top of the screen in the camera app. When the feature is enabled, you'll see a crosshair icon in the upper row of buttons so you can see at a glance.

Sony Xperia Z4 release date, news, specs and rumors....!!!!!!!!!!.....Take a loot at it.

Though the Xperia Z3 was just revealed at IFA 2014, Sony's speedy release schedule means its next flagship device should be hitting us early in 2015. With this in mind, we're taking a look at what we currently know about the new handset.
androidpit sony xperia z3 xperia z2 1
The Xperia Z2 (left) and the Xperia Z3. What will the Z4 look like? / © ANDROIDPIT

Sony Xperia Z4 release date

The original Sony Xperia Z was released in February of 2013, with the Xperia Z2 following a year later in March 2014. Since then, Sony has said it plans to forgo the the yearly release cycle that most manufactures have for their flagship handsets and release them on a bi-annual basis. With this being the case, the Xperia Z3 was announced at IFA 2014 and will be arriving shortly (sometime in the Autumn is the word, but we’re expecting to see it in September or October).
What all of this means for the Xperia Z4 is that we may see it appear in April next year, but maybe even as soon as March to coincide with the 2015 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which takes place between the 2nd and 5th of that month.

Sony Xperia Z4 price

Let’s be real. The Sony Xperia Z range is known for premium materials and hardware. The Z3 features a glass and aluminium housing, 20 MP camera, quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 5.2-inch full-HD display and 2 GB RAM. Oh, and it’s waterproof. The Z4 will be at least as powerful, so you can expect to pay top-dollar when it does appear.
To give you some sort of idea on pricing, the Xperia Z3 is going to be available for pre-order in the UK for £549 off-contract, and the 6-month old Z2 currently goes for £399 (down from the £549 RRP). We expect similar sort of prices for the next generation.

Sony Xperia Z4 specs

Sony has previously stated that it doesn't believe in QHD technology. The trade off of battery power for the benefit of a few extra pixels does not make sense for many manufacturers, and unless battery or QHD technology changes significantly in the next 6 months, we are unlikely to see it on the new device. Having said that, reports are circulating that Sony has experimented with QHD displays on a number of prototype models… maybe one of these might become the Z4?
Qualcomms Snapdragon 810 processor should be available by the time the Xperia Z4 rolls around. and it will boast a number of significant benefits to smartphone user. The 64-bit architecture which supports more than 4 GB RAM means that the 810 will likely make an appearance on a number of flagship smartphones, and we hope to see it on the Z4 also.

Sony Xperia Z4 features

It's going to be safe to assume that Android L will be running on any device released next year, so you can bet the Z4 will come with Android-Key-Lime-Lemon-Lollipop-Meringue-Pie as standard, along with all of the benefits it brings.
That's basically what we think we know about the Xperia Z4. We'll update this page with more information as we get it, until then, you might want to check out how the Z3 compares to another modern flagship in our Xperia Z3 vs LG G3 comparison.
Are you excited about the Xperia Z4?
